Evil Twin is having a one week break while I deal with a pile of other work. Back next monday. Many apologies. I don’t get paid for this, you know.
Whoops! It seems that the upload for friday’s episode went wrong. Here it is. I hope it didn’t spoil your enjoyment overly much. If you want to see it bigger, skip back to friday with the calendar thingy.
The basic idea behind this strip is the games that little kids play together. It comes from living in the countryside with my younger brother as my only playmate most days. Myron and Ludwig have an extensive fantasy world, where they play all the roles and I like the humour that comes from the little evil games that boys play on each other, rather than the more usual kid against adult mischief.
I have tried to move it away from that kind of fantasy depicted in Calvin and Hobbes by blurring the lines far more. Are the fantasies real? Do these twins live in a world different to ours with talking trees and machines that transform you into giant hamsters? It’s important for me not to worry about the logic and let the scenarios play out in whatever way feels right. In future episodes, for example, Myron will switch from a detective to a criminal within the same story. It’s all about the limited resources that kids use to create those worlds.
I try to create the entire strip from idea to finished strip in as little time as possible. Half and hour if I can. The art might suffer a little, but I want to keep my enthusiasm bubbling away, which I hope comes through and gives the strip it’s unique voice, or at least that’s my intention.
Evil Twin was a finalist in Amazon.com’s ComicStrip Superstar competition last year. (In other words it reached the final 10 somehow). These first strips are from the submission for the competition. Brand new shiny strips will appear straight after! Also, this site will start to look good at some point, when I get round it.
